This training program aids Pennsylvania police officers in planning and implementing a comprehensive community crime prevention program, emphasizing data analysis, wide-ranging community participation, and program evaluation.
Abstract
The 3-day curriculum identifies elements of an effective municipal crime prevention program and the steps needed to establish it. A section on data collection and analysis instructs participants in how to calculate and interpret descriptive statistics and charts. Subsequent modules discuss methods of formulating a community profile and targeting specific areas, principles of action plan development and group dynamics, and suggestions for program commencement and community organization. An outline of proven crime-specific prevention activities is followed by suggestions for performance monitoring and reporting. Tables, charts, checklists, and additional course materials are provided. For other Pennsylvania crime prevention courses, see NCJ-87301-02.
