This video is the first of a two-part webinar that summarizes the newest findings of one of the NIJ-funded research projects entitled, "The Nature, Trends, Correlates, and Prevention of Mass Public Shootings in America, 1976-2018."
Abstract
The video covers a panel discussion composed of renowned experts who discuss the nature and contagion of mass public shootings and what to anticipate in the future based on an innovative forecasting technique. The panel also addresses what researchers have learned about the mass public shootings that have occurred and those that have been averted, as well as the effect of state gun laws on mass public shootings. A follow-up discussion centers on implications of the findings for the criminal justice system and the prevention of mass public shootings. This web page provides access to the video transcript and the video of Part II of the webinar.
