This book uses SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) as a vehicle for teaching criminal justice research.
Abstract
The book and its accompanying data disk contain everything students need, except for SPSS for Windows itself. The book explains how to use a computer in criminal justice research; theory, research and practice in criminal justice; the logic of measurement; criminal justice data sets; and using SPSS. There are individual sections on univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. Chapters explain working with variables in many subjects, including political party affiliation; gun laws and capital punishment; race, class and politics; measures of association; binge drinking; abortion; crime and deviance; the correlates of drug and alcohol use; the existence, strength and direction of an association; age, sex and religiosity; the mystery of politics and marital status; making powerful predictions about attitudes; and logistic regression in attempts to understand college student drug and alcohol abuse. Each chapter includes a summary, a review quiz and at least one independent project. Figures, appendixes, references, index
