This article discusses a new test for the presence of MDMA (Ecstasy).
Abstract
Mistral Security Incorporated (MSI), Bethesda, MD, has developed a test to identify the drug Ecstasy, also known as MDMA. Ecstasy has a chemical structure similar to the stimulant Methamphetamine and the hallucinogen Mescaline, and can produce both stimulant and psychedelic effects. MSI's Meth-Test is a departure from the popular ampule tests, as it exploits an aerosol-based delivery method. The test requires only a minute quantity of the drug for testing purposes, test results are available immediately, and the test does not destroy the evidence. The test involves swiping a collection paper on the surface in question and then spraying the sample with two reagents. A color change indicates the presence of an illegal substance, specifically Methamphetamine. The test was designed as a field test and is car-safe. It is reliable in extreme weather conditions, both heat and cold. It is used worldwide by police officers, the FBI, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Customs Service, Border Patrol, and others.
