This book examines the issues surrounding young Australians finding their place in the new work order.
Abstract
The book attempts to determine whether young Australians will adapt to the uncertainty of the post-industrial labor market and find their place in the new work order or whether the trend toward underemployment and precarious part-time or casual employment stacks the labor market against them. The book investigates: (1) the experiences of young Australians in the labor market over the past 100 years and how this is reflected in the contemporary scene; (2) the recent trends that characterize the experience of young people as they move from school to training, further education, or work in a rapidly changing technological age; (3) the workplace experiences of specific groups of young people, including those who are disabled, gay, or from non-English-speaking backgrounds; and (4) government policies on youth employment and training, and whether they are helping or hindering the prospects of young people in the labor market.
