This is an assessment of the 1989-90 affirmative action plan of the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board, conducted by the Indiana State Personnel Department.
Abstract
The Law Enforcement Training Board has designated an Affirmative Action Expediter for the agency, and the duties of this individual are consistent with State requirements. The executive director of the agency has named a committee to act in an advisory capacity in employment areas related to affirmative action. The members of this committee are representative of the employee population of the agency by race, sex, and job classification. Internal and external dissemination of the agency affirmative action plan and commitment to affirmative action meet the standard provided in the model. The nonmerit employee grievance procedure is a part of the plan, as is the new sexual harassment complaint procedure. Goals listed in the plan are to advertise in minority newspapers and minority organizations for recruitment, continue general advertisement for professional positions, and to inform all staff of minimum standards for qualifications for training officers. Goals projected by the agency are consistent with the priorities established by the Indiana Affirmative Action Office and address problems identified in the Utilization and Workforce Analysis. Overall, the plan is a constructive effort to effect a proactive affirmative action program. The plan is included.
