THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE CITY OF AUSTIN WITH REGARD TO INTRODUCING 911 AS AN EMERGENCY NUMBER AND THE REPORT OF THE 911 STUDY COMMITTEE ARE GIVEN.
Abstract
THE AGREEMENT PROVIDES FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF A SINGLE EMERGENCY NUMBER 911 IN THE ENTIRE AUSTIN METRO EXCHANGE AREA. THE 911 SYSTEM COORDINATOR WILL BE AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT BUT WILL WORK IN COORDINATION WITH THE 911 COMMITTEE. THE COMMITTE WILL BE COMPOSED OF TWO REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH OF THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS: THE AUSTIN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE AUSTIN FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE GRANTEE (TEXAS HEALTH DEPARTMENT) AGREES TO PAY THE CONTRACTOR THE SUM OF $16,000.00 TOWARDS (1) TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR PERSONNEL, (2) PERSONNEL AND RELATED BENEFITS, (3) TRAVEL, (4) COPY COSTS, (5) OFFICE SUPPLIES, AND (6) ESTABLISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF ACCOUNTING AND OTHER INFORMATION SYSTEMS REQUIRED FOR THE GRANT PROGRAMS. THE CONTRACT IS FUNDED THROUGH THE PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE ACT, TITLE XII. THE AGREEMENT IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE 911 STUDY COMMITTEE REPORT RECOMMENDING THE ADOPTION OF 911 IN TWO PHASES. THESE ARE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A 911 ANSWERING CENTER IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN 1980 AND THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE 911 ANSWERING CENTER AND ALL EMERGENCY DISPATCH FUNCTIONS IN A SEPARATE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER IN 1982.
