This report summarizes 11 presentations at a 1989 meeting that examined the sociodemographic variables that contribute to personal behaviors associated with the transmission of HIV among minority intravenous drug abusers.
Abstract
Individual papers examine epidemiological information on the spread of AIDS among minority intravenous drug abusers and ethnic differences in HIV infection rates among intravenous drug users. Additional papers describe AIDS prevention efforts in a black community in Los Angeles, among Hispanic youths and families in large cities in the United States, and in United States Asian and Pacific Islander populations. Further papers consider perinatally acquired AIDS, HIV infection in prisons, HIV infection among prostitutes, the relationship between minority health status and AIDS, and health care financing issues.
