Abstract
THE REPORT OPENS WITH A BRIEF NARRATIVE PROFILE OF CORRECTIONS IN ALABAMA, FOLLOWED BY DETAILS OF DATA SOURCES. PROJECTIONS OF BLACK AND NON-BLACK INMATE POPULATIONS THROUGH THE YEAR 2000 ARE THEN PRESENTED. THE REMAINER OF THE REPORT PROVIDES TABULAR DATA, GENERALLY FOR 1972-76, ON AVERAGE DAILY INMATE POPULATIONS COMMITMENTS, RELEASES, OFFENDER DEMOGRAPHICS (AGE, SEX, AND RACE), COUNTY OF COMMITMENT, COMMITTING OFFENSE, AVERAGE LENGTH OF SENTENCE, AND AVERAGE STAY. OTHER PRISON DATA INCLUDE CAPACITY AND DESIGN FEATURES OF FACILITIES, OPERATING BUDGETS, REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES, STAFF SIZE AND POSITIONS, INMATE-STAFF RATIOS, AND SALARIES. STAFF DATA FOR COMMUNITY-BASED FACILITIES AND CENTRAL ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES ARE ALSO PROVIDED.
