THIS REPORT INVESTIGATES THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE VARIOUS JUVENILE COURT STATUTES WITHIN THE STATE WITH EMPHASIS ON THE LACK OF COUNTY-TO-COUNTY UNIFORMITY AND MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS ON JUVENILE JURISDICTION.
Abstract
A LEGISLATIVE HISTORY OF JUVENILE COURT LAWS FROM THE 1907 ACT TO THE PRESENTED IS PROVIDED. THE PROVISIONS OF THE CURRENT JUVENILE CODE ARE DESCRIBED IN SOME DETAIL. THE CURRENT EXERCISE OF JUVENILE COURT JURISDICTION IS THEN ANALYZED WITH RESPECT TO INTERMEDIATE COURTS WITH JUVENILE JURISDICTION, CIRCUIT COURTS WITH JUVENILE JURISDICTION, AND APPEALS. STANDARDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PROVIDED ON THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE JUVENILE COURTS, THE FAMILY COURT, AGE LIMITATIONS, TRAFFIC CASES, STATUS OFFENSES, AND PROCEDURES. THE APPENDIXES INCLUDE INFORMATION ON INTERMEDIATE COURTS EXERCISING JUVENILE JURISDICTION, STATUTORY PROVISIONS OF AGE LIMITATION FOR JUVENILE JURISDICTION IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THE TEXTS OF VARIOUS ACTS RELATING TO JUVENILE JUSTICE.
