This manual attempts to help alarm companies determine how and why false alarms occur, analyze the method in which they handle false alarms, and make an effort to eliminate a large portion. It is based on successful false alarm reduction measures taken by National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association members.
Abstract
The manual describes statistical studies to help alarm companies determine how much false alarms are costing the company. Other recommended studies can help companies calculate their false alarm rate in several forms and pinpoint the major causes. The manual suggests how to administer a false alarm reduction campaign. It recommends that companies form an action committee to oversee the effort and delegate the tasks required to implement it. Subsequent discussion focuses on specific problem areas: equipment testing, staff training, installation, zoning, inspection/maintenance, and subscriber education. The text emphasizes cooperation with police and fire agencies, as well as other public institutions in reducing false alarms. Sample forms and some references are included. False alarm ordinances are also discussed.
