This book uses case studies of business and residential burglaries as well as robberies to identify security weaknesses and propose remedies; the application, strengths, and limitations of security equipment are also explored.
Abstract
The case-study analyses demonstrate vulnerabilities in physical security, alarm systems, and related security procedures that resulted in successful burglaries. New or improved burglary and robbery techniques are described, with suggestions offered for defeating them. The author describes in layman's language recent technological innovations in security techniques with the application of passive infrared sensors, wireless sensing devices, and multiplex and other mediums for transmitting alarm signals. New techniques are described for the installation, service, and supervision of sensors via the application of microcomputer technology to alarm control circuits. Chapters cover significant advances in safe and vault construction, related new Underwriters' Laboratories standards, improvements in line security circuits, and alarm system contracts designed to effectively deter burglary and robbery attacks. Also included are suggestions for reducing unnecessary alarms. A security checklist and subject index are provided.
