This annual report presents comprehensive information on activities within the Alaska Court System for the year 2004.
Abstract
The Alaska Court System is made up of four levels of courts: the supreme court, the court of appeals, the superior court, and the district court. In 2004, case filings in the Alaska Court System increased by 2 percent in the superior courts and 3 percent in the district courts. However, a significant increase was seen statewide for felony filings with an increase of 10 percent. Over the last 2 years, there has been a 20-percent increase in felony filings. One of the fastest growing jurisdictions in Alaska, Palmer court has seen a 9-percent increase in superior court filings, 11 percent in district court filings and a 38-percent increase in felony filings. The report is divided into four main sections: profile of Alaska court system; year-in-review; statistical summaries for the supreme court, court of appeals, and trial courts; and statistics for the supreme court, court of appeals, statewide trial courts and district court.
