FINAL REPORT ON EXPENDITURES AND ACTIVITIES ON A PROGRAM INVOLVING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A POLICE SCIENCE DEGREE CURRICULUM AND ADVANCED TRAINING COURSES.
Abstract
ALASKA'S INDUSTRY, COMMERCE, POPULATION, AND EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. THE OPERATIONS OF THE VARIOUS AGENCIES IN THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE SUMMARIZED. GRANT FUNDS WERE USED TO AID IN THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL. AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAM IN POLICE SCIENCE WAS ESTABLISHED AND OFFERED AT COLLEGES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. LAW ENFORCEMENT CORRESPONDENCE COURSES WERE INITIATED, AND A SUMMER TRAINING INSTITUTE WAS HELD ON THE SUBJECT OF POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS. EVALUATION OF VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM IS INCLUDED, AS WELL AS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MORE LAW ENFORCEMENT DEGREE PROGRAMS.
