This booklet presents an overview, program premises, residential training, onsite support, and management procedures for the School Team Approach (STA) in reducing drug and alcohol abuse and associated disruptive behaviors in the schools.
Abstract
The STA, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education Alcohol and Drug Abuse Education Program, is a national network of training and resource centers that train teams of school and community representatives in problemsolving techniques that help schools develop programs for youth, particularly programs to reduce alcohol and drug abuse among students. After detailing the program's components and offering examples of how STA has worked in particular schools, the booklet presents the program philopsophy and the concept of a network of trainers. A review of residential training focuses on preparation for training, the pretraining visit by center staff to meet team members, the training cycle, and training implementation. A discussion of onsite support describes how centers provide technical assistance to teams in their implementation efforts. The description of the management of the national STA system encompasses the work's scope, program-development workshops, center directors meetings, site visits, data collection, cross-center group meetings, and evaluation. 3 notes and a list of center addresses.
