DESCRIBES COMPUTER SYSTEM WHICH FACILITATES THE EXCHANGE OF DRIVER AND VEHICLE IMFORMATION BETWEEN POLICE IN DIFFERENT STATES.
Abstract
THROUGH THESE COMPUTER SERVICES A POLICEMAN CAN OBTAIN THE DRIVING RECORD AND STATUS OF ANY DRIVER FROM THE EIGHT PARTICIPATING STATES BY USING THAT DRIVER'S NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH, THE DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER, OR THE DRIVER'S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. HE CAN ALSO OBTAIN THE REGISTRATION DATA ON ANY LICENSE PLATE ISSUED BY THE EIGHT STATES INVOLVED. ALL THESE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE 95 PERCENT OF THE TIME WITH COMPUTER RESPONSES UNDER ONE MINUTE. THE SYSTEM IS THE PRODUCT OF POLICE, COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER PERSONNEL FROM ALL THE ACTIVE STATES AND AGENCIES THAT ARE PARTICIPATING IN DEVELOPING AND OPERATING THESE SYSTEMS.
