This article describes details of the examination in New Zealand of a case involving the alleged rape of a woman by three men and a Rottweiler dog.
Abstract
The victim reported the incident approximately 36 hours later, at which time the police examined the scene and collected samples of saliva, blood, fingernail scrapings, vaginal swabs, hair samples, and trace evidence from the woman and two of the accused rapists. Blood and hair samples were also taken from the dog. The forensic examinations were unable to prove conclusively the presence of dog semen on the victim's clothing or at the scene of the rape. It is unclear whether this failure to identify dog semen was because there was none present or because forensic techniques were inadequate for the task. DNA profiling, which detected the presence of semen from one assailant on the victim's clothes, did not detect any bands from the dog's profile. 1 figure and 11 references
