EVALUATION OF A PROJECT TO PROVIDE AN EDUCATIONAL SUPPLEMENT TO JUVENILE PROBATION SERVICES BY HELPING JUVENILE PROBATIONERS STAY IN SCHOOL OR, IF THEY ARE OUT, HELPING THEM OBTAIN A HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA.
Abstract
PROJECT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE IDENTIFYING THE CLIENTS WITH THE GREATEST NEEDS, KEEPING CLOSE TRACK OF THEIR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND PERFORMANCE, GETTING TUTORING FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT, AND PREPARING THOSE WHO ARE OUT OF SCHOOL TO PASS THE HIGH SCHOOL EQIVALENCY TEST. THESE ACTIVITIES ARE AIMED AT REDUCING JUVENILE RECIDIVISM. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES CONSISTED OF COLLECTING AND EXAMINING THE AVAILABLE DATA, INTERVIEWING PROJECT STAFF AND CLIENTS, OBSERVING PROJECT ACTIVITIES, AND REVIEWING EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS. THE EVALUATION REVEALED THAT THE PROGRAM PROBABLY INCREASED THE SCHOOL SUCCESS AND ALLEVIATED SOME OF THE SCHOOL PROBLEMS OF THE PROBATIONERS AS A GROUP. HOWEVER, THE LIMITATIONS OF THE DATA MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRAW DEFINITE CONCLUSIONS....PLO
