COMMUNITY-RUN SHELTERS AND LOW SECURITY RESIDENCES ARE TWO OF THE ANTIDOTES TO INDISCRIMINATE PLACEMENT OF JUVENILES IN DETENTION.
Abstract
A JUVENILE HALL OF DETENTION SERVES A LEGITIMATE FUNCTION FOR MINORS WHO MUST BE KEPT AWAY FROM SOCIETY. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS WOULD BE A BETTER ALTERNATIVE FOR CURFEW VIOLATORS, THE COMMON DRUNK, THE TRUANT, MOST RUNAWAYS AND CHILDREN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR PARENTS. THE COOPERATION OF PROBATION DEPARTMENTS, POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY IS NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUCCESS OF SUCH PROGRAMS.
