Abstract
POVERTY AND HOSTILITY AGAINST ESTABLISHED INSTITUTIONS ARE THE CORE OF TEENAGE ALIENATION, WITH RACE AS A FACTOR. ECONOMIC DISCRIMINATION LEAVES THESE DEPRIVED TEENAGERS USUALLY ONLY A CHOICE BETWEEN ILLEGITIMATE ACTIVITIES AND DEPENDENCE ON PUBLIC WELFARE. THE CONCERN OF THIS BOOK IS WITH THE MEANING THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, THE ANTIPOVERTY PROGRAM, AND THE RIOTS IN SEVERAL CITIES HAS HAD ON ALIENATED YOUTH AND WITH RECOMMENDATIONS DESIGNED TO RESOLVE OR DIMINISH ACUTE PROBLEMS. THE STUDY IS BASED PRIMARILY ON INTERVIEWS WITH STAFF MEMBERS OF STREET-WORK AGENCIES AS WELL AS OFFICIALS OF RELATED GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS. 71 REFERENCES.
