This codebook lists the variables and coding used for the data set resulting from a study of 1962 criminal court cases for the 50 States and the District of Columbia.
Abstract
A sample of cases from 194 counties was selected and weighted to yield a national cross section of cases. The data include demographic information on the defendant, State and county of trial, offense charged, sentence, type of counsel, amount of bail, length of time in jail, and other variables relating to case disposition. One card of data covers each of the 11,257 cases.
