Abstract
CHAPTERS ONE THROUGH FOUR PROVIDE THE READER AN OVERALL UNDERSTANDING OF THE POLICE FUNCTION, THE PRESENT STATUS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND ITS DEVELOPMENT FROM THE ANCIENT TO THE MODERN ERA. THE LAST FOUR CHAPTERS DISCUSS CURRENT PROBLEMS SUCH AS RISING CRIME, REORGANIZATION OF POLICE SERVICES AND POLICE IMAGE, LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS FROM ARREST TO RELEASE.
