ANALYSIS REVEALED A DISPROPORTIONATELY LOW ESTIMATION OF POLICE BY THOSE UNDER AGE 30, AND IT IS REASONED THAT A PREDOMINANTLY NEGATIVE INTERACTION WITH POLICE AND THE WISH FOR MORE PERMISSIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THE CAUSES.
Abstract
ON THE BASIS OF SURVEY RESULTS AND EXPLANATORY CONCLUSIONS, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT POLICE ADMINISTRATORS CORRECT ANY PREJUDICIAL ENFORCEMENT AGAINST THE YOUNG. EFFORTS TO STRUCTURE NON-ENFORCEMENT INTERACTION AND COMMUNICATION BETWEEN YOUTH AND POLICE ARE URGED. IT IS FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT ENFORCEMENT POLICIES AND SELECTIVITY SHOULD BE MADE CLEAR TO THE PUBLIC TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDING AND DELINEATE THE AREAS FOR POLICE-COMMUNITY DIALOGUE. THE APPENDIXES INCLUDE THE SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE.
