A COLLECTION OF PAPERS GIVEN AT A SYMPOSIUM ON BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION HELD IN JANUARY, 1973, IN WHICH TWO THEMES WERE EXAMINED: EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF AGGRESSION AND APPLICATION OF LEARNING PRINCIPLES TO CRIME PREVENTION.
Abstract
THE SYMPOSIUM WAS HELD UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY AND METHODOLOGY OF THE NATIONAL AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF MEXICO. TOPICS FOR THE SYMPOSIUM WERE SELECTED TO SHOW HOW THE PROBLEM OF AGGRESSION CAN BE ANALYZED UNDER CONTROLLED LABORATORY CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTRIBUTORS EXPLAIN HOW BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES, DERIVED FROM THIS KNOWLEDGE, CAN BE USED FOR PREVENTIVE PURPOSES. BECAUSE OF THE SOCIAL NATURE OF AGGRESSION AND DELINQUENCY, BEHAVIOR CHANGE TECHNIQUES ARE PRINCIPALLY AIMED AT MODIFYING ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES. THE CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS VOLUME ILLUSTRATE HOW BEHAVIORAL SCIENTISTS MAY AID IN THE UNDERSTANDING AND AMELIORATION OF CONDITIONS THAT GIVE RISE TO VIOLENCE.
