The concentration of ethyl alcohol in blood was analyzed using two methods, one using the blood sampler and the other using the head space method.
Abstract
The blood gas sampler apparatus used with the gas chromatograph was similar, but simpler, than the pyrolyzer. The calibration curve was found to be similar to that in the head space method, but its linearity was worse than that in the head space method. The linearity at low blood alcohol concentration was better than at high concentration. Results also showed that the quantification of blood alcohol concentration using the blood gas sampler was usable, and the method was more convenient than the head space method due to the smaller sample size and the lack of need for certain equipment. Furthermore, the heating time for the equilibration of samples between air phase and liquid phase was not needed. Figures and 3 references (Author abstract modified)
