RESULTS OF AN EXPLORATORY STUDY TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE MANNER IN WHICH POLICE ARE MOBILIZED AFFECTS THE TYPES OF ACTIVITIES THEY HANDLE.
Abstract
ACTIVITY DATA ARE ANALYZED USING REACTIVE AND PROACTIVE FORMS OF POLICE MOBILIZATION AS UNITS OF ANALYSIS. FINDINGS INDICATE THAT POLICE INITIATE A LARGER PROPORTION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES THAN WAS SUPPOSED. THE IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
