This research bulletin provides information on Anne's House, a residential program for trafficking victims operated in the Chicago area.
Abstract
The program was started in 2010 by the Salvation Army to provide services to young women and girls who were victims of sex trafficking. This residential program is part of a larger program operated by the Salvation Army, the Partnership to Rescue our Minors from Sexual Exploitation (PROMISE), which focuses on awareness, prevention, intervention, and service delivery for sexually exploited children. Anne's House partners with law enforcement, prosecutors, hospitals, local schools, and the YMCA to provide services and assistance to victims of sex trafficking. This research brief describes the services offered by Anne's House, its budget, its short and long-term goals, and characteristics of program participants. The services offered by Anne's House follow the four core principles for shelter programs serving trafficking victims: 1) Rebuild a sense of empowerment, trust, and community; 2) Ensure safety and well-being of clients; 3) Offer a combination of comprehensive services; and 4) Offer individualized services. Different services offered by Anne's House include clinical services, medical and psychiatric services, educational and vocational services, and recreational and spiritual activities. References
