The Center for Victim Research Library presents an annotated bibliography of articles related to services for persons who experience interpersonal criminal victimization while serving in the military.
The articles listed were published during 2018 and 2020. Among the victimizations addressed are sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse (military veterans), as well as secondary post-traumatic stress experienced by clinicians providing services to military personnel. Two articles that address the prevalence of interpersonal victimization of military personnel focus on self-reported intimate partner violence and sexual trauma. Six articles address issues related to coping with the consequences of interpersonal victimizations while in the military. Among the issues addressed are post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma-informed intervention for victims of intimate partner violence, risky coping behaviors related to sexual trauma, alcohol-use disorder related to post-traumatic stress disorder in active military and veteran populations, and the needs of male sexual assault victims. Eight listings address the challenges and strengths of providing victim services in a military context. Online access is provided to additional resources related to victimization and victim services in a military context.
