AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF CLASSIC RESEARCH PAPERS, INTENDED PRIMARILY FOR BIOMEDICAL INVESTIGATORS AND OTHER DRUG ABUSE PROFESSIONALS, IS PRESENTED; PUBLICATION DATES RANGE FROM 1935 THROUGH 1975.
Abstract
THE ADDICTION RESEARCH CENTER FELT THAT THE PUBLISHED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES WOULD SERVE AS A PUBLIC RECORD OF ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS. THE CENTER HAS ACHIEVED A UNIQUE BALANCE BETWEEN CLINICAL AND BASIC RESEARCH. AT THE PRESENT TIME, THE USE OF PRISONERS AS RESEARCH SUBJECTS IS BEING PHASED OUT AND WITH IT THE OPPORTUNITY OF STUDYING ADDICTIVE PROCESSES UNDER CONTROLLED CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS FACT MAKES THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DRUG ABUSE, DERIVED FROM EXPERIMENTS PRESENTED HEREIN INVOLVING PRISONER NARCOTIC ADDICTS, MOST IMPORTANT. SUBJECTS OF THE PAPERS INCLUDE SAFE AND HUMANE WAYS OF DETOXIFICATION; THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES OF THE TREATMENT MODALITIES METHADONE, LAAM, CYCLAZOCINE, NALOXONE, AND NALTREXONE; AND THE PREVENTION OF THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW ADDICTING ANALGESICS. ENTRIES ARE ARRANGED IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF PUBLICATION DATE BY YEAR. WITHIN EACH YEAR, ENTRIES ARE FURTHER ORGANIZED ALPHABETICALLY BY AUTHOR'S OR EDITOR'S LAST NAME. EACH ENTRY INCLUDES THE AUTHOR'S NAME; TITLE OF THE PAPER; PUBLISHER, MOST FREQUENTLY A MEDICAL OR SCIENTIFIC PERIODICAL; PERIODICAL NUMBER; PAGE REFERENCES; DATE; AND, IN SOME CASES, A DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION. ENTRIES INCLUDE 'EFFECTS OF ADDICTION OF INTRAVENOUS HEROIN ON PATTERNS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN MAN,' 'ADDICTIVE AND POSSIBLE TOXIC PROPERTIES OF GLUTETHIMIDE,' AND 'COMPARISON OF PSILOCIN WITH PSILOCYBIN, MESCALINE, AND LSD-25'. AN AUTHOR/EDITOR INDEX IS PROVIDED IN THE BIBLIOGRAPHY. (LWM)
