Abstract

The Center for Victim Research's (CVR's) annotated bibliographies collect and summarize research on difficult-to-search topics in victim research. The current bibliography stems from what animal welfare advocates and researchers sometimes call "The Link," which is the co-occurrence of violence against humans and against animals. This bibliography resulted from the search for research on the connections between domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and pet abuse; the influence of pets on victims' decisions about reporting abuse, leaving relationships, or seeking services; and examples of multidisciplinary collaborations in animal welfare, human services, and criminal justice in addressing violence. Research for the bibliography focused on publications and articles produced in the period 2016-2020. It includes research done in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The listings are categorized under the following subject titles: "Pet Abuse Co-occurring with Family Violence" and "Victim Services Collaborations and Animal-Assisted Interventions." Additional related resources are listed.
