Abstract
THE FIRST PART OF THE BOOK CONSIDERS TRANSNATIONAL TERRORISM IN 1972 AND CONTAINS A COUNTRY-BY-COUNTRY RECORD OF RELEVANT EVENTS. REVOLUTIONARY CHALLENGES, THE SPONSORSHIP OF EXTREMIST MOVEMENTS, AND THE SUCCESSES OR FAILURES OF THE REVOLUTIONAIRES ARE EXPLORED. PART II, CONSISTS OF FIVE ESSAYS EXAMINING CHANGES IN THE WORLD'S POLITICAL BALANCE ON BOTH WORLD AND REGIONAL BASES. OF PRIMARY CONCERN IS THE WAXING OR WANING OF THE FORTUNES OF THE GREAT POWERS AND GROUPS OF POWERS. IN EACH AREA, ATTEMPTS ARE MADE TO ASSESS WHETHER EVENTS HAVE SERVED OR THWARTED THE INTERESTS OF THE US, THE SOVIET UNION, CHINA, THE WARSAW PACT, NATO, AND SIMILAR STRENGTH BODIES.
