This document is the annual report on the adult court case processing of juvenile offenders in New York City for the period January through December 2012.
Abstract
The report is prepared by the New York Criminal Justice Agency for the following purposes: to decrease the number of days spent in detention by defendants who could be safely released to the community; to reduce the rate of non-appearance in court by defendants released from detention and awaiting trial; and to provide a variety of administrative, informational, and research services to criminal justice agencies, defendants, and the public. It is hoped that the information in this report will provide policymakers with an understanding of the types of offenses attributed to juvenile offenders and lead to the development of potential intervention strategies aimed at limiting pretrial detention or offering alternative sanctions. The data in this report is presented in seven sections: 1) Arrest; 2) Criminal Court Arraignment; 3) Criminal Court Disposition; 4) First Appearance in Supreme Court; 5) Supreme Court Disposition; 6) Supreme Court Sentence; and 7) Failure-to-Appear Rates. Each section presents selected characteristics of juvenile offenders arrested for serious crimes as they move through the adult criminal court system. Tables, exhibits, and appendix
