This 1996 (July 1, 1995 - June 30, 1996) annual report of the Delaware Judiciary provides statistics on case processing and describes the significant achievements of the court system for fiscal year 1996.
Abstract
The introductory section of the report describes the court organization and jurisdiction. This section is followed by a presentation of caseload summaries for fiscal year 1996; the summaries include the Supreme Court, the Court of Common Pleas, the Court of Chancery, the Municipal Court, the Superior Court, Justice of the Peace Courts, and Family Court. A commentary on fiscal year 1996 by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court notes progress toward the development of a sound scheme for enabling Delaware's court system to make the transition from a paper-based environment to a technology-driven environment to manage its large and complex caseloads. He also notes the urgency of addressing the lack of adequate physical facilities for the Delaware courts. Some topics discussed as highlights and developments for fiscal 1966 are judgeships, continuing judicial education, physical facilities, automation, and standardization and uniformity. Financial data and caseload data are provided for each court.
