This report presents narrative descriptive information and statistics on the work and programs of the Tennessee judicial system for fiscal year 1995-96.
Abstract
After a review of the operations of the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts, an overview of the Tennessee judicial system is provided. Information and statistics are then presented on the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Court of Criminal Appeals. Court personnel are listed, along with data on case filings and dispositions. A section on the year in review focuses on work in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, the addition of capital case attorneys, and cameras in the court. A portion of the report describes the activities of the SCALES (Supreme Court's Advancing Legal Education for Students) project, which is a program to educate students about the judicial branch of government. Filing and disposition data are provided for the chancery, circuit, and criminal courts by district and county. Statistics are presented for damages and torts cases and domestic-violence cases. A glossary of legal terms is included.
