This report presents statistical descriptions of all offenders admitted to the four Hong Kong correctional programs in 1991: prisons, drug addiction treatment centers, training centers, and detention centers.
Abstract
In 1991 there were 13,648 persons sentenced to correctional institutions administered by the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department. Section One of this report provides an overall view of the socioeconomic and criminal characteristics of the sentenced offenders. The statistics address age on admission by program type, offense, and sentence length; current offense; number of previous drug offenses; number of proved previous offenses within the last 2 years; number of previous institutional sentences; occupation; marital status; education; and gang affiliation. Section Two of the report summarizes key statistics on sentenced offenders by type of correctional program. Data encompass age, criminal history, and offense. Section Three contains detailed statistics on drug-dependent persons. Statistics address the number of addicts by age, type of drug used, offense, sentence length, length of dependence on current drug, total length of drug dependence, drug first used, age at first drug use, and education. Section Four contains comparative statistics for 1990 and 1991 for selected characteristics. 43 tables
