This manual presents specific advice for implementing anticrime programs in the areas of public relations, advocacy, victim assistance, crime prevention education, residential security, and community crime prevention.
Abstract
The manual is aimed primarily at anticrime project directors and staffs. Each project component can be implemented independently of other activities. The advice is based on the experience in the seven projects involved in the National Elderly Victimization Prevention and Assistance Program over the past 2 years. For each anticrime activity, the manual presents a definition of the activity's purpose and a summary of planning guidelines and information on methods of developing liaisons with local officials, hiring and supervising staff, recruiting clients and assessing their needs, delivering services to clients, and following up on service delivery. Chapter appendixes present examples of newsletters and brochures directed to the elderly, legislative recommendations developed in New York State, information on home security surveys, recordkeeping forms for property engraving programs, a manual for use in organizing block clubs, and related materials.
