This report provides information on relevant legislation, cases, commentary, and media reports that focus on the problem of gang-related crime in Australia.
The information is presented in 11 main sections. The section on legislation provides links to current legislation directed at gangs and organized crime in each of Australia's States and Territories, as well as brief information on the provisions of each law and litigation that has taken place in relation to the law. The section on selected cases provides links to cases regarding anti-gang legislation that centers on principles related to the separation of Federal judicial power. The next several sections of the report provide citations and/or links to selected books, book chapters, articles, other papers, parliamentary and other reports, NSW Research Service papers, and online commentary dealing with anti-gang laws in Australia. Additional sections of the report cover sources on human rights charters related to anti-gang legislation, cooperation between intergovernmental bodies for dealing with the problem of organized crime, and selected media reports from each of Australia's States and Territories that have dealt with the problem of gangs and organized crime.
