THIS GUIDE IS IN THE FORM OF A CHECKLIST FOR STORE SECURITY PERSONNEL AND MANAGEMENT WHICH ENUMERATES SOME OF THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO CURTAIL SHOPLIFTING.
Abstract
A CAREFUL REVIEW OF THIS GUIDE WILL PERMIT A RETAILER TO DECIDE WHICH DEVICES OR METHODS HE NEEDS TO REDUCE SHOPLIFTING AND WHICH HE DOES NOT NEED. THE AVAILABLE OPTIONS ARE GROUPED IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES ANTI-SHOPLIFTING DEVICES, STORE LAYOUT, EMPLOYEE TRAINING, COMPANY POLICY, AND SECURITY PERSONNEL. A FINAL SECTION CONTAINS A LIST OF SHOPLIFTING 'INDICATORS' OR SOURCES FROM WHICH EVIDENCE OF SHOPLIFTING CAN BE COLLECTED. ANALYSIS OF SUCH DATA MAY SUGGEST CHANGES WHICH WILL MAKE AN ANTI-SHOPLIFTING PROGRAM MORE EFFECTIVE. FOR EACH OF THE SIX SECTIONS MENTIONED ABOVE, 'DECISION SPACE' WITH APPROPRIATE HEADINGS HAS BEEN PROVIDED AT THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF EACH PAGE. THIS AREA MAY BE USED FOR CHECK-MARK SELECTIONS, RATINGS, PERSONAL COMMENTS, ETC. FROM WHICH SOUND ANTI-SHOPLIFTING DECISIONS AND SELECTIONS CAN BE MADE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
