DEVELOPED BY THE ANTI-VICTIMIZATION PROJECT STAFF OF THE PITTSBURGH NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE, THE RESOURCE GUIDE OFFERS A CURRICULUM MAKING HANDICAPPED CITIZENS LESS VULNERABLE TO VICTIMIZATION.
Abstract
THE PRESENTATION OF THE CURRICULUM IS DIVIDED INTO FIVE PARTS: (1) OBJECTIVES (MATERIAL TAUGHT AND MEASUREMENTS FOR THE STUDENTS' MASTERY OF MATERIALS), (2) PRESENTER (SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT THE PERSON PRESENTING THE INFORMATION CAN SAY TO ELICIT RESPONSES FROM THE PARTICIPANTS), (3) CONCEPTS (INFORMATION THE STUDENTS NEED TO BE SAFER IN THE COMMUNITY), (4) ACTIVITIES (EXERCISES AND CLASS ROOM ACTIVITIES), (5) NOTES (ADAPTIONS OF MATERIAL FOR PARTICULAR DISABILITIES). THE CURRICULUM COVERS COMMUNITY AWARENESS (I.E., ALERTNESS); DEALING WITH STRANGERS; SHOPPING, MONEY, WALLETS, PURSES; CON GAMES; HOME AND APARTMENT SECURITY; SEXUAL AWARENESS; AND REPORTING A CRIME AND GIVING A DESCRIPTION. THE RESOURCE GUIDE ALSO INCUDES A BASIC INTRODUCTION TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AN ALPHABETICAL LIST OF SIMPLE LEGAL DEFINITIONS, AND A LIST OF ADDRESSES OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES WORKING IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE PITTSBURGH ANTI-VICTIMIZATION PROJECT FOR HANDICAPPED CITIZENS.
