This fact sheet briefly describes 12 grant solicitations from the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for FY 2019 that potentially benefit law enforcement.
Abstract
The Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy and Implementation Program targets law enforcement agencies that want to pilot, establish, or improve BWC policy and implementation programs. The Collaborative Model to Improve Law Enforcement Investigations of Human Trafficking will assist law enforcement agencies and their communities in developing multidisciplinary task forces that will implement victim-centered approaches in countering sex and labor trafficking. The Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Site-Based Program provides financial and technical assistance in planning, developing, and implementing comprehensive efforts that identify, respond to, treat, and support those impacted by the opioid epidemic. The Innovations in Community-based Crime Reduction assists high-crime communities by supporting the integration of officers and innovative enforcement strategies into community-based efforts to reduce crime. BJA's Innovative Prosecution Solutions for Combating Violent Crime provides prosecutors with information, resources, training, and technical assistance for developing effective strategies and programs that address violent crime. BJA's Intellectual Property Enforcement Program provides support for improvement in a criminal justice system's capacity to enforce laws that protect intellectual property. The Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program funds cross-system collaboration designed to improve responses for persons with mental illnesses who become involved with the criminal justice system. BJA's Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) Prevention Training and Response to Mental Health Crisis Program provides support for addressing, preventing, and reducing school violence. BJA's Strategies for Policing Innovation Program provides resources to law enforcement agencies for testing promising crime prevention, response, and reduction practices based on evidence-based strategies. Other BJA solicitations are the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, and the Strategies for Policing Innovation Program.
