AFTER REVIEWING THE BASIC METHODOLOGY, TECHNIQUES AND APPLICATIONS OF SOCIOMETRY, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE RESULTS OF A SOCIOMETRIC TEST GIVEN TO 34 INMATES AND NINE STAFF MEMBERS AT THE PRISON IN ALCALA DE HENARES.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE VALUE OF IDENTIFYING THE INTERNAL GROUP DYNAMICS AND STRUCTURE OF A PRISON COMMUNITY IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE INMATE AND TO PLAN AND IMPLEMENT EFFECTIVE REHABILITATIVE PROGRAMS ON THE BASIS OF THE INTERRELATIONSHIPS ESTABLISHED IN THE PRISON SOCIETY. A BRIEF DEFINITION OF SOCIOMETRY IS PROVIDED, AND THE TYPES OF SOCIOMETRIC TESTS AVAILABLE ARE DESCRIBED. THE USE OF SOCIOMETRIC CHARTS IS DISCUSSED AS WELL. THE RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENT CARRIED OUT BY THE AUTHOR AT THE PENITENTIARY IN ALCALA ARE THEN REPORTED. SOCIOMETRIC TESTS AND SOCIOGRAMS WERE THE TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED TO DETECT LEADERSHIP FORMATIONS AND GROUP DYNAMICS WITHIN THE PRISON. IN CONCLUDING, THE AUTHOR ARGUES THAT SOCIOMETRIC TECHNIQUES SHOULD BE OF VALUE IN CORRECTIONAL PLANNING AND REHABILITATIVE EFFORTS. --IN SPANISH
