Abstract
The booklet addresses the following seven major topics, with selected sub-topics: (1) The Concept of Juvenile and Family Drug Courts (What’s in it for the judge, the justice system and the community?); (2) Practical Application of Juvenile and Family Drug Courts (cases involving substance abuse, re-orienting the judicial process to accommodate a drug court docket, the mindset of the juvenile and of the parent, the judge’s role in achieving family involvement); (3) Applying Substance Abuse Treatment Principles to Juveniles and Their Families (the therapeutic perspective); (4) Drug Testing in a Juvenile Family Drug Court Setting; (5) Implementation Issues (developing program policies and procedures, establishing a planning process, developing community support and partnerships, orientation, education and training, developing structure and accountability); (6) Policy Issues That May Need To Be Addressed; and (7) Practical Tips.
