SERIOUS KNOWLEDGE GAPS WHICH AFFECT POLICE RESOURCE ALLOCATION ARE DISCUSSED, AND INCLUDE THE EFFECT OF PREVENTIVE PATROL ON CRIME, RESPONSE TIME EFFECTS ON CRIME RATES, AND METHODS OF PREDICTING CALLS FOR SERVICE.
Abstract
SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE ON THE TYPES OF EXPERIMENTATION THAT COULD CLARIFY THESE AREAS. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT IMPROVED METHODS OF DEPLOYING PATROL MANPOWER - SUCH AS COMPUTER-ASSISTED ANALYTIC MODELS WHICH RELATE PATROL INPUTS TO EXISTING CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS - BE TESTED EXPERIMENTALLY AND IMPLEMENTED.
