Highlights, accomplishments, and data of the Arizona courts in 1980 are presented in this annual report.
Abstract
A note from the chief justice, the administrative director's summary report, and an organizational chart delineating the structure of the judicial department precede an explanation of the judicial branch of government in Arizona. Special activities during 1980 are noted, such as legislation passed which will have the State finance the superior courts, allocation of planning funds for a new facility for the appellate court, and publication by the State supreme court of the 'Arizona Manual for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction.' Reports of activities relating to judicial education, foster care review boards, State aid for probation services, the judicial coordinating committee, and family counseling are included. Special trial court projects in 1980 included the Pima Superior Court civil case delay reduction project, continuation of a similar project for Maricopa Superior Court, computer-aided transcription, and installation of minicomputers in some superior courts. Data are given concerning caseload, financial, and personnel information for the supreme court, the court of appeals, superior courts, justice of the peace courts, and municipal courts. Long-term data are presented for Cochise County and Santa Cruz County. Tables and graphs are supplied. The Arizona constitution and lists of members of the various courts and commissions are appended.
