This report presents narrative and statistical information about the structure, operations, and accomplishments of the Arizona Department of Public Safety for fiscal year 1999-2000.
Abstract
The agency had a total of 1,756.8 authorized full-time equivalent positions and a total budget appropriation of $123,845,000 for fiscal year 2000. The State experienced 24,336 traffic collisions, had 3,731,126 registered vehicles, and had 550 highway patrol officers. The officers made a total of 36,036 arrests, an increase of 17.7 percent over the previous fiscal year. A total of 3,627 stolen vehicles were recovered. The traffic fatality rate in Arizona was 2.18 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, compared to 1.55 for the United States. The agency’s components included the Office of the Director, the Highway Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Agency Support Division, and the Criminal Justice Support Division.
