This annual report of the Arkansas Department of Correction for fiscal year 1989-1990 provides information on the department's activities, function, quantitative analysis, and the impact of the Department of Correction as it executes statutory responsibility for the custody, care, treatment, and management of adult offenders.
Abstract
The report indicates that the Board of Correction continued to use the Emergency Powers Act to help alleviate overcrowding, and in June 1990, the State carried out the mandate of the courts and performed the first execution in 26 years. Organization and planning was ongoing during the year with the creation of the new Boot Camp Program, the increase in bedspace at existing units, and the opening of new units. The Administrative Services Division provided support services to all areas of the Department of Correction due to the increase in the inmate population. Information on field services focuses on the Boot Camp Program, parole services, prerelease, and work release. The report has separate sections on institutions and operations (agriculture, classification, industry, and warehouse and food services). Information on treatment programs is provided as well. 13 charts and graphs, appended data, and a directory for the Department of Correction
