Planning is an important part of efforts to align security functions with the overall corporate entity, and developing a comprehensive, written security plan requires a series of steps that start with fact-finding and a physical security review.
Abstract
Other parts in the planning process are the development of a mission statement, the identification of central issues, and the specification of the implementation steps and methods. The process should also include developing objectives and organizing them into 1-year tasks. The last component of the plan is a financial analysis or cost summary, to implement the plan. Once the draft plan has been completed, the immediate manager should review it prior to ratification by senior management. After the plan is reviewed and approved, the manager must consider how to monitor and update it. Although developing a plan is not easy, the manager's efforts will be rewarded when senior management acknowledges security's contribution to the corporation's success.
