Abstract
The text combines the ideas of recognizes management consultants, business executives, and academics with the author's own perspectives to develop a context for security specialists and students. The author cites and explains the 10 maxims for success developed by Mobil Oil Corporation security manager George Murphy and compares management strategies with those required for successful fly-fishing. Additional sections explains ways for external security providers and resident security departments to demonstrate added value, strategies for constant improvement, the role of best practices as an avenue to quality, and strategies for achieving customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Further sections present new approaches to security management, including the protection of proprietary property and confidential information, and examine the concept of envisioned leadership in a collaborative approach to security management.
