This document describes various collection programs that assess custody data.
Abstract
These vehicles include the National Survey of Jails; Census of State and Federal Adult Correctional Facilities; Children in Custody Census of Public and Private Juvenile Detention, Correctional, and Shelter Facilities; Conditions of Confinement survey; Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics Survey; and National Corrections Reporting Program. Other instruments include the National Jail Census; National Juvenile Court Data Archive; National Prisoner Statistics Year-end and Mid-year Counts; State Juvenile Correctional System Reporting Program; Survey of Inmates of Local Jails; Survey of Inmates of State and Federal Correctional Facilities; Survey of Justice Expenditure and Employment; and Survey of Youth in Custody. The descriptions include a summary of the survey, sampling methods, data collection procedures, instrumentation, key variables, quality controls, periodicity, representatives, and data access. An evaluation of improvement potential is based on universe issues, self-report issues, definition issues, and accuracy issues. 1 appendix
