ONE OF THE FOUR RESEARCH PRODUCTS OF THE ATLANTA BUREAU OF POLICE SERVICE'S THOR (TARGET HARDENING-OPPORTUNITY REDUCTION) PROGRAM WHICH WAS INITIATED TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF BURGLARY, ROBBERY, AND RAPE IN THAT CITY.
Abstract
THIS STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE THE TYPES OF BURGLARY INSURANCE AVAILABLE IN GEORGIA AND OTHER STATES, AND TO WHAT EXTENT IMPROVED SECURITY DEVICES WILL RESULT IN REDUCED PREMIUMS. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY INCLUDED A LITERATURE SEARCH PERTAINING TO INSURANCE IN GENERAL AND BURGLARY INSURANCE IN PARTICULAR; INTERVIEWS WITH SELECTED INSURANCE ORGANIZATIONS; A SURVEY OF THE PRACTICES OF LOCAL INSURANCE FORMS; AND A SURVEY OF THE PRACTICES OF OUT-OF-STATE FIRMS AND STATE REGULATORY AGENCIES. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ALTERNATIVES FOR REDUCING BURGLARY INSURANCE PREMIUMS AFTER ANALYSES OF THE STATES OF GEORGIA, ILLINOIS, MASSACHUSETTS, AND TEXAS.
